Because you can never have enough of Mallorca, we have this 10 days long itinerary which is basically our week-long itinerary, just a little bit longer for those who have time to explore more of Mallorca and don’t want to miss a thing. It takes you in a counter-clock loop “around” the island or what we consider the best places to visit and riding, stopping in Sineu, Port Pollensa, Selva, Port de Soller and Palma. You will have some epic rides, alternating with some easy routes in between when moving from one location to the next, and allowing you to ride, if you’re up for it, all the iconic rides on the island like Cura and San Salvador Monasteries, Cap Formentor Lighthouse, Sa Calobra and the amazing SW coast. Ten days of Mallorca at her best: charming countryside and quiet little medieval villages, stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Tramuntana mountains, cosy intimate hotels, and the chance to try some of the best gastronomy and wines on the island…. Quintessential Mills & Honey!
Welcome to Mallorca! Upon your arrival we’ll have a short transfer to the charming town of Sineu. After a warm welcome, we’ll take the opportunity to review the exciting itinerary ahead, review and fit bikes. If time permits we invite you to embark on a leisurely 20-40 km loop ride through the neighbouring town of Petra, birthplace of friar Junipero Serra, a prominent character in California’s history. For the avid ones among us there’s even an optional climb to the Bonany Hermitage offering panoramic views to get your bearings .It’s the perfect way to kickstart your Mallorcan escapade.
Sineu 2 Nights
Sineu is the old Capital of Mallorca and sits practically in the middle of the island so it’s a great place to explore the inland region of Mallorca which offers great variety and charm. On Wednesdays they have the farmers market that have been running from the 1300’s and it’s quite cool thing to watch with the whole town dressing up for it, live music if the weathers fine, and lots of local products and even animals for sale. Really remarkable, so hopefully with your arrival day we could fit a Wednesday so you can enjoy this cultural highlight of Mallorca.
Today you’ll have different options to ride towards the South East of Mallorca the longest route including the climb up to San Salvador Monastery, one of the classic climbs on this part of the island and from where you get some amazing views of the whole island and the East Coast and then the short and steep climb to Bonany Hermitage near Petra.
If you prefer a shorter ride today you’ll have different easier loops of between 45 and 75 km through the charming villages of Montuiri, Porreres, Sant Joan and Petra.
Ride: 45 to 85 km with 400 or 900m climbing.
PORT POLLENSA – 2 NIGHTS
The coastal town of Port Pollensa is the most popular cycling hub in Mallorca and for good reason. Great location for tackling the ride to Cap Formentor Lighthouse, one of the classics of the island, a good variety of Spanish and international food restaurants, and many good little corners where to sip a “cafecito” after your morning ride. Good place to get our guests favourite souvenir, a Mallorca cycling jersey.
Heading North. We’ll have a transfer ride from Sineu towards the North and to your new hotel, La Goleta de Mar, and again there will be different options of length of ride and amount of climbing. The Long ride heads towards the Binissalem wine country before riding up to the Puig de Santa Magdalena near Inca and then riding through the Agricultural area of Sa Pobla and into Port Alcudia where you detour towards Alcanada for lunch by the sea at La Terraza. The Medium and Short rides can ride directly out of Sineu towards Llubi with the optional climb up Puig de Santa Magdalena or ride directly to La Terraza for lunch by the sea.
Ride: 46 – 85 Km with 230 – 680m of climbing.
One of Mallorca’s iconic cycling routes and in the bucket list of many cyclists around the world. With amazing views of the Mediterranean Sea, it’s a constant up and down, twists and turns which take to the most Northerly point in Mallorca. An early start is recommended to avoid most of the traffic. After coming back from the Lighthouse, we suggest you visit the charming old town of Pollença and have lunch there or in the cove Cala Sant Vicenç by the beach.
Ride: 40 – 65 Km with +1000m of climbing.
Selva – 2 NIGHTS
It’s a lovely little village on the foothills of the Tramuntana where there’s great riding wherever you ride with lots of variety as you can ride straight into the Mountains, North and South along the foothills of the Tramuntana or head inland for some more flatter and easier terrain. Here you have a couple of choices of Hotels depending if you’d like to be right in the little village or a couple of Km away in a very quiet rural B&B, and some very special restaurants for planning a special dinner out.
Easy to Selva. You can take an easy 25 km ride South West towards Selva and your next hotel, or you could take a little more challenging ride up to Coll de Feminia and LLuc Monastery, and then the great descent from Coll de Sa Bataia into Caimari where you could stop at Sa Ruta Verda bike Café
There’s a great loop which will take you through many little charming villages like Mancor de la Vall, Biniamar, Bunyola and up to the mountain village of Orient where you take the great descent into our home town, Alaro, for a great coffee stop at Cycling Planet bike Café and back home along the same rolling terrain as the way out. Along the way, you’ll be riding along the Binissalem wine country, so also a good day to plan an easy ride (tomorrow will be challenging) and visit to the one of the olds wineries in Mallorca for lunch and wine tasting like Bodega Ribas. The Ribas winery of Consell is a reference in Mallorca for winemaking. With its over three-century-old history, it is the oldest winery of the island and the 3rd oldest in Spain. It is located in one of the listed stately homes from the 18th century that has been preserved intact to date, with its original historic barrel cellar and winemaking warehouse.
2 days in Port de Soller
it’s a natural harbour set in a gorgeous Valley in the heart of the Tramuntana mountains range, with dramatic views of the mountains meeting the Med. The valley is famous for its tasty and juicy oranges, and the Soller Red Prawns, plus walking along the waterfront in the lovely harbour on a bright spring or fall evening it’s just idyllic.
Sa Calobra.
it’s epic ride along the Tramuntana including a detour to the world famous Sa Calobra, a must-do for any cyclists coming to Mallorca, and the main reason why Mallorca is so famous in the cycling world, but that’s after the beautiful climb from Caimari to Coll de Sa Bataia, and before the great 14 Km descent from the Monnaber Tunnel to Port de Soller. 70 Km with almost 2000m climbing, so we have shuttle options or you could even jump in the ferry in Sa Calobra that takes you to very near your hotel.
Hike or ride. You can do many rides from Port de Soller, but being tucked in right by the sea and the mountains, all riding involves a lot of climbing. From here we’d recommend you can ride Coll de Soller and then head back up to Valldemossa via Esporles and so you get to ride the great descent along the coast from Valldemossa to Deia, or another option we could plan a nice hike along the coast (10 Km) towards Deia where we can have lunch at Cas Patro March, the famous place from that show The Night Manager… or so we’ve been told. This way you all save your legs for tomorrow’s super ride along the SW coast.
The capital of the island and a cool little city to finish the trip off and have a last evening in town wandering around the narrow and charming streets of the old town with its many bars and restaurants, art galleries, boutiques, and the wonderful Palma Cathedral. Also a good idea to have next morning in town so you can pay a visit to the municipal markets and have some fresh seafood direct from the stalls.
SW Coast. Today is the cherry on top of the cake, and what we think is the best ride in Mallorca along the SW coast passing the stunning coastal villages of Deia, Banyalbufar, Estellencs, and Andratx all the way to Sant Elm for a great lunch at Es Moli, where we could pick you up and drive you back to Palma for a last night in town, a great way to finish the trip, and only a 15 minutes drive to the airport the following morning. 40 to 70 Km options.
